Kane County’s Treatment Alternative Court gives legal assistance to defendants with mental health issues and offers them additional treatment options. With only one full-time lawyer already on the Court, State Attorney Joe McMahon says the increase in cases calls for the hiring of an additional full-time attorney.

The Court is only available to non-violent offenders and State Attorney McMahon hopes to cut back on the tide of those criminals by defending them in court and helping them apply for state aid for their treatment. He believes the Court will be worth the investment by keeping those with mental health issues away from the justice system.
